I Quit

I didn't have a clue what to write for the letter Q, but then my husband shared a story he read about with my family. It seems there is a guy who walks into companies that he has never been to before. This guy tells the manager, "Look, I'm sorry, but I just don't feel like it's working out here. I'm sorry, but I have to quit." This is someone who has never been employed at the company. The funny thing is, with people being so transient with jobs these days, some managers don't know who is employed and who isn't... The guy received responses such as, "Can you at least give us two weeks notice?" or "I'm sorry you feel that way. Why don't you give it another week with the company." Hmmm... maybe I should try that. Walk into a company and tell them I quit so that I can get hired :)

Privacy and Cell Phones

My Dad sent an article to me about cell phones and how the Big Brothers of this world (and the Sinister Brothers of this world) are tapping into our conversations, whereabouts, purchases, searches, even conversations that aren't on the phone - if a cell phone is near you, then your conversation can be heard.... you name it and they are tracking it. Bottom line... if you have a cell phone, you are leaving bread crumbs of your daily on-goings. The only way to stop it is if you take the battery out of you phone. After reading the article, CLICK HERE , it's enough to make me want to ditch my iPhone4S. Well, not really. I like Siri :)

Ocean

Ocean That's my word for beading these days. I promise myself I will actually finish this project. I'm dragging my feet. I have a few items for the necklace done, two starfish and a sea horse (which I love how it came out)... I also completed two fish and I'm working on my third. Eventually I'm going to sit down and create a plan to put it altogether on a necklace. Maybe that's the reason for my procrastination on this last fish. It will have to be a bead embroidery necklace to pull it together and it's going to be something huge. Or.... I'll can the idea and make a bunch of necklaces. :) The lazy man's way out or the pull my hair out can't make it work way out.....

Namesake

My Mom said she did not name me after the Prince Valiant comic. My brother likes to tease me by saying it's true. Mom states that when she was pregnant with me, she met another lady who had a daughter in a baby carriage and the baby's name was "Alita." Mom changed the spelling to Aleta. I've read that the origin of my name is Greek, which is cool because I love Greek mythology and the like. It's also been said that the name has a Spanish diminutive "ala" meaning "wing" and "graceful"..... I can't claim to either :) On Facebook, there's a group formed for ladies with the namesake. It's called: "The Awesome Scions of Lady Aleta." Yes, I'm a member. We found a book on Amazon about "Aleta's in history" and some other fun stuff. It's so nice to be a part of the group and share something so special as our name :) I can remember when I was a little girl going to stores on vacation and ...

Kitchen Sink Beef Stew

My husband doesn't like carrots. He says they sometimes are too strong of a flavor and can take over a dish. And sometimes I think he gets a mild reaction from them, allergy wise. So, I had to do a little bit of changes for a typical beef stew. I say "kitchen sink" because it has a nice variety of things in it... except for carrots :) By the way, my husband gave it a thumbs up and rubbed his tummy afterwards (having eaten too much), saying, "I almost wish you weren't that good of a cook." *so smiling* Note: I turned this on at 8:30am and slow cooked on LOW until 5:30pm. Kitchen Sink Beef Stew Ingredients *Beef - cut into cubes *Trifecta Seasoning - if you're lucky, the local grocery store will have this - onions, garlic, celery, bell pepper, parsley. I used about a third of the container - lots of it! *Can of Green Beans, drained *Can of Whole Sweet Corn, drained *Can of Roasted Stewed Garlic Tomatoes *Small Red Potatoes *Worcester Sauce - didn...

Kites and Lafreinere

Image
I missed yesterday's post for "K". So I'll write a touch about it today. I went to the park this morning and thought of kites. In a few weeks kids will be on their summer break and soon we'll see kites flying at the park. The sight always brings a smile and happy memories. When we were younger, my parents would bring me and my brother to the beach. My brother taught me the kite war game. We helped each other get our kites high up in the air and then swoops and swerves to attack the other person's kite in the hopes to bring it down. The winner had to go get the fallen kite and help fly it again; the games start over. Good memories. Lots of laughter. This morning, there weren't many dogs at the park, but it was enough to give Penny a couple of good runs and some play time. I'm so happy Lafreinere (L word Woot!) Park finally has a dog park. It's a good community. It's not just a great way to walk a dog (without a leash and it's gate...

Tuna Salad

Image
Tuna Salad - It's such an easy thing to make and often times I forget about it. But this time, the grocery store had a sale going, so I picked up two cans. My husband won't eat tuna, so I divide the salad and bring some over to my mom to share :) Ingredients: Tuna (can, in water) 2 Eggs Mayo Dill Relish Celery Directions: Boil the eggs (see below), chop up celery, mix all ingredients. How much of each totally depends how what you like. I like a lot of crunchy celery, so I cut it in medium pieces (not really small) and I add plenty into the mixture. I like a little bit of bite with the relish, so I do a sample test and add more when needed. I'm not big into salt, but pepper is a nice touch too. One of my good friends also includes onions and tomatoes - those taste really good as well with the tuna, but I didn't include them this time, because I know my Mom likes the ingredients above... I used to make the salad when I was a teenager and we would share it during the...

Jill Blogs By Sneaky Momma

I have to give props to Jill, who runs the Sneaky Momma blog. She's the one who designed Fleur de Aleta based on information exchanged. Jill also created the buttons to my other blogs - Jewelry , Book Club , Photography and now... my new recipe blog - Fleur de Food . Check out the new button on my blog - look to the right. I took the picture in our kitchen and asked Jill if she could turn it into a button (she did the same thing for the photography button - it's a picture that my husband and I took one sunrise). I'm tickled with the button :) Check out Jill's blog . She gives excellent tips for blog design and she does blog makeovers too! Thank you, Jill :)

My sister-in-law made this recipe for Easter as the desert; it was so light and yummy. It's super easy to make and it's great for the summer time: Summer Delight Ingredients: Angel Food Cake or Lady Fingers Pineapple Juice (can of pineapple fruit in Natural Juice, might need 2 cans) Vanilla Pudding (low fat, instant kind) Strawberries, Bananas, Blueberries, whatever fruit you like to give it color Cool Whip (sugar free) Nuts - any kind Flat bottom bowl that is clear glass is the best to use to see the layers Directions: Slice up the angel food cake or use lady fingers - layer the bottom of the bowl Pour a little pineapple juice over the cake Layer vanilla pudding, then strawberries, vanilla pudding, bananas, pudding, fruit Continue to put as many layers as the bowl will fit Top it with Cool Whip and Sprinkle with nuts It sounds so simple, but it's cool and light tasting and a will be a big hit :)
