Happy Mardi Gras and Dovey Update

Image
Happy Mardi Gras! This morning, Greg and I went to a Coffee Café where one of his high school friend’s, Phillip, is the owner. They used to play in the school band together. It was nice to see him and I couldn’t resist ordering the Mardi Gras “king cake” decorated donut. Did you see the Fleur de Lis on the crown? Adding the king cake baby was an extra touch. I remember when I was a little girl, digging through the cake, not to eat it, but to see if I got the baby. The tradition is ~ whoever got the baby in their piece had to bring the next king cake. It was treated as an honor and fun! Lovey Dovey ~ we've decided it's a "she" based on no knowledge of a bird’s nether regions, but just because, well, she's a sweet little dove. Lovey Dovey is at a new home. We gave her warmth, kept her nest clean, gave her food and water and now, we're giving her to people who know how to raise a bird and can help rehabilitate her back into the wild. Clearwater Rehabilitation ...

Help Help Help

Does anyone know how to care for a baby dove? Please help! We came home, thinking nothing was in the nest, because the Momma Dove had not returned. Then we looked at the garage light and the baby must have slipped from the nest to the light in order to help stay warm. It was still breathing, but barely. A second baby dove was dead in the nest. Carefully, we took the garage light off and placed the living baby bird in a shoebox, filled with tiny scraps of newspaper. A quick read suggested that the baby needs to be kept warm, so we have a small space heater next to it. Greg went to the store to find bird food, because we don't have a clue as to help the baby. Any suggestions ~ please help!!!

Pink Fortunes, Decadent Balls and a Vent

Just a warning, this is going to be a long post. Grab a drink and a snack and settle in. Don't worry, nothing mushy about Valentine’s Day. This is a Share post (about the weekend) and ends with Restaurant Vent. We had a simple Valentine's Day. Both Greg and I set up cards and gifts (ranging from flowers to cologne) on the countertop the night before, thinking we'd surprise the other person in the morning - both of us having the same idea. At midnight, I placed Greg's gifts on the kitchen counter, after I knew he was asleep. Greg did the same for my gift at 3am (of all places at the kitchen counter) after he knew I was asleep. Phooey, I wanted to surprise him and he said, "You did, just at 3am!" Later that morning we went to Cafe Latte Da for breakfast. I didn't have a lot of time with Greg, because soon after we had to set up the office for the beading meeting. The beading meeting went well; it was a new technique to learn; I'm always happy when that h...

Cuban Food

Image
Tonight, Greg and I went to Churros Café, where he introduced me to Cuban food. The service was great and the food ~ oh so yummy! I tried some of Greg’s Cuban sandwich and he tried my entrée, Congri Yucca roast and cassava root. When our waitress took note of Greg using salt on the cassava root, she remarked how, "Most Cuban food does not have a lot of salt, because Cubans tend to have high blood pressure." We met the owner of the establishment, José. He came to America to be a welder during the 70’s. He tried to go to Miami for a welding position, but it a ctually paid $ 2.00 an hour less than Louisiana. (That was a shocker to us, consider most Louisiana jobs aren’t paid the standard norm in other states.) I’d definitely go back to Churros Café. It’s nice that Greg enjoys going to new places and introducing me to various cultures and tastes! Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

Soon after the wedding, Greg said, "Let's not buy anything more for decorating inside the house." You'd think I'm a shopaholic by the way that comment sounded, but it's not true. In fact, the most that I ever shop is ~ Christmas gifts for other people and ok, yes, the wedding decorations. Maybe Greg was concerned I'd put a nail on every square inch of the walls, but seriously, I don't have things hanging on every wall! I seem defensive, don't I? Well, I do like to decorate..... But I agreed with his request. However, yesterday night I came home with a box. Greg said, "I thought we agreed...." And I replied, as I opened it to show him, "This is not for the INISIDE of the house, this is for the OUTSIDE of the house." He laughed, "I'm going to call you My Attorney." He says I notice the small, fine-line details, like an attorney does. That wasn't true for today. I came home for lunch and how lovely to see Greg th...

Dovey Update

Just so you know ~ my wonderful blogger friends ~ Greg has taken your comments to heart. He sent me this message: "I've decided your posters on your blog are right… I am unplugging the garage door until the bird flies the coop"

Dumb Dove and ESPN

Image
The dove is back. Last winter, the dove made a nest on our garage door motor. The egg didn’t fair too well. You’d think the dove would learn her lesson. We even took the nest out. But they diligently (and stealthily, I might add) built the nest back up, until it was too late to do anything about it. The dove refuses to move from the nest. I don’t know if it’s fearless or dumb. With 30 feet of chain rattling next to the nest as the two-door garage door opens and the garage door itself heading straight for the nest (but never actually touching it), the bird won’t budge. It’s the month of love ~ dove, who knows? ESPN ~ Greg and I jokingly say that he has “ESPN” not ESP, because sometimes his ESP isn’t tuned in right. Tonight was one of those nights that freak you out, just a little. We went to one of our favorite Chinese restaurants for supper. We call it “Julie’s Restaurant” ~ I don’t know the actual restaurant name. Julie is one of the waitresses. As we frequent the place, we came to kn...
