Dumb Dove and ESPN
The dove is back. Last winter, the dove made a nest on our garage door motor. The egg didn’t fair too well. You’d think the dove would learn her lesson. We even took the nest out. But they diligently (and stealthily, I might add) built the nest back up, until it was too late to do anything about it.
The dove refuses to move from the nest. I don’t know if it’s fearless or dumb. With 30 feet of chain rattling next to the nest as the two-door garage door opens and the garage door itself heading straight for the nest (but never actually touching it), the bird won’t budge. It’s the month of love ~ dove, who knows?
ESPN ~ Greg and I jokingly say that he has “ESPN” not ESP, because sometimes his ESP isn’t tuned in right. Tonight was one of those nights that freak you out, just a little.
We went to one of our favorite Chinese restaurants for supper. We call it “Julie’s Restaurant” ~ I don’t know the actual restaurant name. Julie is one of the waitresses. As we frequent the place, we came to know her name, about how parents own the establishment and that she’s going to college. Her parents are originally from Vietnam and recently, her brothers started working there as well. The food is reliably good and the prices are standard.
Greg said towards the end of the meal, “I’d like to go to Second Harvest and find out when they have volunteer work available.” Second Harvest, as some might know, is a large organization that provides food to families in need. Greg’s parents volunteer a lot of time there and Greg was interested. But it was late when we arrived at the Second Harvest office. Lights were on inside the building, but the door was locked. We touched the outside buzzer, but nobody came to the door. We went back to the car and I said, “Oh, look, the lights turned out in that room.”
Greg commented, “Looks like they are getting ready to leave. Do you want to wait and see if anyone comes out?” We were in the car right outside the front door. Sure, let’s wait a few minutes. Then Greg said, (mind you, we couldn't see inside the building, so he was just saying this off the cuff)....
“OK, she has to turn off a back light (another light went off). Now she has to get her purse and keys, put on a jacket. One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Now she is turning on the alarm. One, Two, Three, Now she’s unlocking the door and coming out….” And I mean – LITERALLY, just as he said, “Out” the lady opened the door and walked out!
It even freaked Greg! Have I mentioned that Greg is a “people watcher?”

And I just might not distrub the dove's nest... even if it meant I had to park outside, Aleta. I think it is an angel :)
Possibly more freaky that the two of you were lying in wait for the poor woman in the car park.
Freaky about Greg. But I'd have to agree that not only is he a people watcher, but he has a great sense of timing as well, knowing how long people take to do ordinary things they do every day.
So, after the wait, did he get to talk to her? Ya left us hanging Aleta!! :-)
The Dove, what a strange bird...LOL

My in-laws have doves that nest on their porch every year, kinda cool. :)
You certainly qualify on that count,
Vivek
My husband and I are people watchers too. We do the same kind of thing, but I don't know that we have ever got that close.
And that dove looks very content on your garage door opener--I don't think she's leaving nay time soon!
