Gregory Turns One Today

I can't believe my son is 1 year old.  His life has been counted in days, weeks, months and now... years.  I have known my little boy before he was born, his movement in my stomach during pregnancy... and now, at night when he cries and I bring him into the bedroom, he still kicks my stomach as he moves around to get comfy.  Lol.

It's fun to feed Gregory, because he likes to feed Mommy and Daddy too.  If I put my head near the tray and open my mouth, my son will feed me a Cheerio!  He gets this sweetest little look on his face, as if to say, "I'm sharing.  I'm giving.  I'm taking care of you too."

Gregory is furniture walking like a pro.  He will stand without holding anything if he doesn't realize he's doing it.  When he realizes he is standing and balancing on his own, he slowly - as in very slow motion - start to bend his knees and make it back to the ground.  It's funny to watch.

Though today is my son's actual birthday, we will be celebrating it with family and friends on Sunday, February 23rd.  The reason for choosing this date, is because our son will be baptized on Sunday.  We figured that with family getting together for the baptism, we would celebrate our son's birthday party on the same day.  We're looking forward to seeing everyone and praying my son won't cry.  (He doesn't like getting his head wet!)

Happy Birthday, Sweet Son.  You are a blessing to your Mommy and Daddy.  I can't imagine our lives without you.  We never thought you could be a possibility and yet, here you are.... a year of love that has expanded our hearts beyond expression.  The future is adorably bright because of you.

Keeping Time in Years
by:  Aleta O'Brien

Rapid staccato tapping across the cold tile floor
the sound dances to a drum beat
never heard before

Metronome quickly clicking with the falling rain
melody resonates, filling a void of silent pain

forward pitter
  forward slaps the sound
stop
  turn and wait and onward
forward patter
  forward echoes in the home
march on

stronger limbs to grow, it does not matter
what to balance on, this is bundled music in motion

pitter patter  pitter patter
it's not the sound of little hands and little feet
it's the heartbeat of a mommy's dream

Love Always,
Mommy
