Friends that are Family

Do you have any friends that you consider to be family?  I'm fortunate in this.  My good friend, Kristen… known her for 34 years now.  She's more like a sister.  Kim as well, we met in the 7th grade. And my cousin, Holly, well, she's more than a cousin, more than a friend and I think that ranks her as a "sister" too.

You might think that's typical… high school buddies turning into family.  But what about a siblings friend turning into a brother?  I'm counting blessings with this too.  My brother met Rene when they both worked for the USDA, back in 1986.  They hit it off as friends and he became a good friend of the family, playing card games, going on vacations with us.

My parents were out of town for Thanksgiving, visiting with my brother and his wife.  Rene came in town to spend time with two friends who were in the hospital.  (He's a good guy like that.)  My husband has become good friends with Rene and actually spends more time talking with Rene than I do!

We were fortunate that Rene had time to spend with us during his brief visit.  Greg invited Rene to his family's Thanksgiving dinner and he joined us then too.

Friends who are family are incredibly special.  These aren't people who are family… and though I'm counting blessings with some awesome family… my "family friends" - extra special.  Because it takes a lot of dedication and loyalty to the friendship to make it work.

Below is a picture of Greg, our son and Rene.

By the way, Rene is single.  I offered to play match-maker but he isn't interested in long distance relationships, so that counts out the ladies I know.  But if you know someone in Atlanta, George, maybe we can hook them up.  He's a great guy!

What a great friendship journey. My friend since Kindergarten and I were thrilled when her husband's uncle married my great-aunt. We think that counts as making us officially related! :-)

I think the fact you keep friends for a lifetime might be indicative of how loving you and Greg are. I don't suspect most people can say they have kept the same friends over the course of 30 years. It is wonderful that all of your friend/family relationships remain so connected.
