Trip to Mississippi

I am just now getting around to our quick trip to Mississippi, Gregory's first time out of state.   We went to MS to attend a graduation party for Sarah, my cousin's daughter.  Gregory was ready for the road trip!

What I'd like to know is how do you pack for a trip for a baby?  My goodness, we were only staying over night for ONE night.  Greg and I each had one small bag... the baby?  Had four bags!  Goodness!

We arrived at Misty's home (my cousin).  They had everything decorated so lovely for their daughter.

Here is my cousin Misty.  They had crawfish (which my husband is allergic to, so thankfully they also had pulled pork, which was very tasty and tender).

The party was held in the "backyard" - on a huge lot of property - which includes a lovely pond.  Below is a picture of the group at tables outside.  And then a picture of Sarah with my Aunt Vera and Gregory.

Misty and Paul's home is a log cabin.  No kidding, it's all wood - the inside and the outside.  We were given a tour around.  It took them 3 years to have the house made.  I think it came out beautiful and my cousin has her dream home!

They have a pool in the backyard as well.

Love all the wood in the house!

Did you see the swing in the front room?

Love the tub

The bed has pine cones on it in the iron work, too cute.

While we toured the house, Gregory loved going arm to arm :)

Gregory's shirt reads, "I love my Opa" (my Dad's name for "Grandfather" in German)

My cousin, Michelle, told me "This is something new we are trying with Isaac."  (He just made two years old and I love to watch his progress.  Teaching him how to drink from a water bottle.)

I mentioned to Michelle that I'd like to hold off on chocolate for my son until his first birthday party and then get the birthday cake over his face picture.  Michelle shared this wisdom, "Oh, don't do that!  I waited for Izzy (her daughter) for her birthday, but she didn't like the texture of chocolate.  The key is to introduce chocolate a month or so before the birthday party so they can enjoy it."

Izzy is too cute.  She's holding the new dog that my parents bought for my brother and his wife.  Izzy knew the dog's name was Gumbo and she knew the difference between the two dogs (who look very much alike.)

Love this picture with Izzy driving.  There are a lot of pine trees in the yard and she did an excellent job of driving around them.  I was impressed!

We enjoyed the pond in the backyard as well.

Afterwards we visited at Aunt Diane's home (they own over 200 acres and live "across the street" from Misty).  Gregory was wiped out from the visiting.  Love this next shot - my mom holding Gregory - one shoe of her's is off, the other is in a brace.  She's drinking from a Hershey's cup and it's coffee and both her and the baby looked chilled out.

We stayed one night at a hotel room, where Gregory determined what we would watch on TV.

The next day we went to visit at Aunt Diane's house again.  My cousins and their daughters were there.  We had a lot of laughs and Gregory loved the attention :)

My aunt took us on a tour of her property while Gregory soaked up the love and attention.

Greg moving tree branches out of the way ,while my aunt calls out, "Look out for snakes!"

Misty's son took Lori's girls on the four wheeler

Aunt Diane's home

Afterwards, Adam took Greg on a four wheel tour :)

It was a lovely trip and Gregory slept the entire way back home.  It's still amazing what all is necessary to take a baby on a trip, what all he needs.  This was a good short trip to give us a clue.  :)  It was great to spend the time with family.

aMy great-niece had chocolate for the first time on Easter. She had turned one in February. I gave her a chocolate bunny that was nearly as big as SHE was! She liked it but she nibbled on the ears a bit and then she was done. =)
Gregory is adorable as always! He seems like such a content kid.

Babies really do require a lot of stuff! Looks like you had a great trip. I love that log cabin.

Traveling with a baby nearly takes a moving van.

Cute pictures. Love the log cabin and all the pretty land. The wooded areas in the South are just awesome. The Plain States just don't have those types of lots for the most part.

I, agree with you...the picture of your mother holding Gregory is precious.

Travelling with kids can have you packing and packing, whether it's just for a day or a week! So I can imagine the 4 bags that Greg needed for the trip :) And the pictures say that you had a lovely trip. The Log House is absolutely inviting...would love to own one, some day!
I'd talk to your pediatrician about the chocolate. With Greg's food allergies, they might suggest you hold off on feeding him anything that allergy prone.

I held off on sweets until their first birthdays too and don't regret it. Most kids will come to love sweets even if they don't particularly enjoy smashing a cake and/or getting their fingers dirty/sticky. One of my girls wasn't a fan of getting her hands all sticky. It still made for great birthday pictures. I just think, personally, that it's just the kind of special treat that belongs with that very first birthday. Again, this is just my own little personal story/thought.
