Gender Reveal Party

Greg came with me to our more recent doctor appointment, which we knew would include an ultrasound.  We spoke with the technician and the doctor and asked, "If you know what gender the baby is, don't tell us.  Write it down on a piece of paper and seal it in this envelope."

The doctor and technician both asked if we were doing a gender reveal party and we said yes.  They asked, "Cake or balloon?"

We responded, "Cake, but what is Balloons?"  For us, we're took the envelope to Gambino's bakery and asked for a gender reveal cake.  The lady working there immediately knew what we were talking about, "I just love making those cakes!"  The outside of the cake is decorated in pink and blue.  The inside icing will be pink if it's a girl and blue if it's a boy.  At the party, we cut into the cake and everyone finds out the gender at the same time :)

The technician explained about the balloons, "You bring the envelope to the balloon store and they take either pink or blue balloons and fill the balloons with helium... then put the balloons in a box.  At the reveal, the mom and dad to-be, open the box and the balloons float up revealing the baby's gender."  Cute, cute idea, but we were already going with the cake :)

Here's the ultrasound from the doctor's office.  I think it's towards the end of the video where the technician tells us to turn away as she finds out what the gender is.  Greg purposefully stood in front of me, so during the ultrasound I couldn't see what was on the screen. Grrr, but he claimed he was looking away too.

My parents came by with pink and blue decorations (from table covers to cups, plates, utensils and napkins) as well as two balloons in the shape of baby bottles.  Greg set up the decorations - blue on one side of the table and pink on the other.

I love how the cake came out with pink and blue question marks.

I mentioned to Greg, "We should have the guests pick a pink or blue cup based on what they think the baby's gender will be."  Before the guests arrived, Tigger gave his vote by sitting to the right.. pink..

My parents used their iPhones to video the gender reveal :)  Below is the video, along with me trying to explain the ultrasound picture the doctor included in the envelope showing what they saw for the gender (but you might have to turn up the volume at this point, because I must have moved away from the iPhone when I starting talking, sorry).

We are so thrilled!  A boy :)  Our Son :)  What a wonderful way to share the news with family and friends.  We were expecting only a couple of people, so when we had such a lovely crowd, I was delighted.  Family from Maryland even did Facetime with us so that they could participate  :)

 We're having a BOY!!

Relatives from Maryland are Facetiming with us via the iPad

My friends, Kim and Kristen, already planning a baby shower :)
Our first baby gifts :)  Yes, Winnie the Pooh is the baby's theme

Oh and I have to share the dream I had the night before the party.  I woke Greg up and said, "I dreamt about our baby.  The baby had blond hair and blue eyes and it was a boy!"  It was a wild dream to have before the night of the party.

One more video... during the ultrasound, the doctor gave us a tiny little glimpse into the 4D view of the baby.  She printed that out as well, but when I looked at the picture, all I thought was, "I can't make anything out other than an alien."  Greg showed me the baby and I made a video clip of the explanation :)

Those ultrasound pictures can be tricky, especially with the wiggle worm your son seems to be!
