Help Hide a Dead Body

No April Fool's joke... my husband asked me, "Will you help me hide a dead body?" He was serious.

The smell coming out of the bag could wilt the most determined, healthiest and hardiest plant. I answered, "No."

It was a body alright.... not human. It was a pork roast we bought on sale from the local grocery store. When my husband opened the bag, the pungent smell from the rotten meat swiftly made its way into all the rooms.

Greg tried to say, "It's just the blood. The meat is fine." Uh huh... if the blood is bad... where did it come from? He cut the pork roast and the smell was to the bone.

He didn't want to leave that horrible stench in our trashcan. And no, we're not the type of neighbors who would dump something like that into another can, though... it did cross our minds for the briefest of seconds.

Instead, my husband figured that if the grocery store can sell it, they can handle the disposal of something that was sold bad. He brought it to their dumpster and talked to the manager.

Makes me nervous to think of the trust we give to food stores, though this is the first time something like this happened.

To get the horrible smell out of the house, we bleached down the kitchen counters, sprayed Lysol and lit a candle. Want to know what truly works to get a smell like that out?

Bake blueberry muffins! The house smells like heaven right now :)

I have had a couple of occassions where meat went bad and you are right...it would kill a healthy plant. Just a god-awful smell. That was a smart way to dispose of it. I am sure at the grocery store spoiled items (meat included) fill the dumpster.

I worked at a grocery store and we would always have that trouble with the chicken. If the blood gets out, it makes it all smell horrible!

Oh that is terrible. I am very wary of buying any meat now. I have a little butcher shop right near where I live thank goodness. As for blueberry muffins, yum!

Ugh! So sorry you had to smell that...I hate when that happens!
