Craft for Saints Fan - Second Line
This past weekend, Greg and I were on the hunt for black and gold. Yes, Saints football related, but – this time, for a craft project. Greg’s good friend, Danny (and his family) is going to the Super Bowl. Danny wanted a second line umbrella, but they were really expensive to purchase online. Greg said, “We’ll make one for you!” Danny replied, “No pressure, but remember, it’s the Super Bowl.”
Neither of us knew how we were going to adhere the decorations or what to do, but we (and by that, I mean “Greg”) got creative. I have to admit, whenever I see this creative side in Greg, I find it so sexy! It’s not just creative, as for what would work, but his ability to make it work. And I knew that he would make it work, because he has “mad engineering skills!” That’s My Man!
So, we started with a simple black umbrella.
Greg put a ring on the top and then fishing wire down reach rib of the umbrella and attached it to the end with another ring (made of those ties that you typically use to keep computers chords and such together). With the fishing wire in place, we wrapped a gold star decorated wire around the fishing wire. Then the white feather boa went through another loop attached to each rib ring. The gold star wire hid the fishing wire and the boa hid the rings. The Mardi Gras ornaments were also attached to the rib rings. (Ok, Mardi Gras is not “football” related, but it’s New Orleans! (And we are going to have a special parade just for the Saints football team, so it’s all good.)
Now, here’s the beauty of this design by Greg. It can all be detached from the umbrella! So, if it rains and Danny and his family don’t want to fight feathers and ornaments with the raindrops, they can take it off.
Afterwards, Greg used gold glitter glue to paint on Fleur de Lis (yeah!) and “Who Dat!” going around the umbrella.
The finishing touch was the King Cake on the top (to hide the ring) and yes, more Mardi Gras. I thought it came out great!
Greg ~ you amaze me! XOXO Sexy Man!
