Dove Porn
Blog Title: Dove Porn
That's a horrible title, isn't it? If you've read my blog before, you know about the baby dove story, where we saved the dove's life. After that experience, the dove still tried to make another nest on the garage motor. Greg put latticework around it, giving no free entrance for twigs. However, the doves are determined and nested ~ again.... on the top of our AC unit.
We didn't move the dove's nest from the unit. At least there wasn't a motor barreling through the nest or a light fixture for the baby doves to fall into. Mother Dove made her nest and sure enough, she had two eggs. We don't know when the baby doves hatched, but one day Greg and I looked at the nest and two healthy baby doves were popping their head over the nest. I was able to catch a picture of them. Within a day or so later, the baby doves had flown the coop!
I thought that would be the end of dove making season. Greg sent me an email to prove me wrong:
"2 Adult doves (I HOPE consenting…) were humping on top of our office A/C just now… I scared them away when I opened the door. I just heard the delicate sound of tap tap tap tap tap tap on the sheet metal. Bird porn. What have we created… a dove brothel?"
And then, Greg took out the video camera. It's the kind that can take the video at night (infrared) and he hooked it up to the TV. Now we can watch the dove in her nest at any time of the day.
The next email from Greg:
"This male bird is smarter than I am… he prepares the female bird for what is to come.
EVERY TIME he comes with a twig for the nest he STANDS with at least one leg on top of her and most of the time both legs on top of her… I guess letting her know that you will have to get used to this weight on top when I “TWIG” you… Next time I bring you food I am going to come home and stand on you. Be prepared."
I think Greg enjoys bird watching. His emails continued:
"He came 3 times now in the past few minutes with twigs. She hunkers down submissively and he hovers over her and puts the twig in the nest and leaves… and she places it where she wants. Its more frequent now. She pecks and pecks at the nest getting it just right."
On Facebook, I wrote about Greg's camera-dove-watching tendencies. He replied, "Nuttin like live Dove Porn baby!! Makin Eggs"
Mari responded with, "ROFL @ dove porn! Watch out I hear it's just a gateway to hardcore chicken porn"
Greg's response, "Eagle Porn.. now I would be a fluffer for that!!"
I don’t know what it is about our home that attracts doves, but it’s nice. Now that we don’t have to worry about a garage door chain going through the nest and trying to raise a baby dove. Mamma Dove has it all taken care ~
And on that note ~ Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful Mom’s out there! Wishing you a special day with loved ones and family.

Happy Mother's Day blessings,

Feeling guilty that I condemned their home, I searched the tree where I found the nest with two eggs intact. I moved the nest to an adjacent tree and attempted to locate the nest at the same height as the previous nest. A few days later, I checked on the nest and found that they returned. Every spring, I still hear birds returning to nest in one of my trees. I can only hope they are the following generations.

Dove Porn, I just couldn't stop laughing.
In my parent's house, squirrels nested outside the bathroom window high up. This window's close to the ceiling.
And, then they made babies. :) So we can see 5 squirrels jumping around across the length of the window now.
God bless.

You said,'I don’t know what it is about our home that attracts doves...'
There is a belief which many Indians have [including me] that doves make nest only at places where 'good' people live.
You have just given more evidence in support of that belief now!
