Bridal Shower for Roda

(ok, I must admit, the first picture has nothing to do with the shower, but I took it before we left. Tigger just looked SO cute on the top of his cat bed. Lol)

Mawmaw (my grandmother on my father’s side) and Diane and Vera (Dad’s two sisters) hosted a bridal shower for Roda. I won’t go into all the details of who everyone is, but from picture to picture I might add a little snippet.

It was a lovely shower. Aunt Diane took the floor and welcomed Roda into the family. It was a heart-warming beginning.
They received many wonderful gifts from Fleur de Lis picture frames to a fantastic set of pots (compliments of Diane and her three daughters).

The first shots are at Rob and Roda’s house, where we had a "pre-Bridal Shower" ~ giving them the gifts from Mom and Dad (the Oneida Flatware). I bought some gifts off of Roda's registry at Linen's N Things.

The picture to the left is of Roda (left) and Rowena (right). They are sisters. It is because of Rowena that Rob and Roda met. She played cupid and I'm glad that she did! They are both very sweet, caring, giving women.

The picture below is of my grandmother (right) and her sister, Aunt Lillian (left). Actually, she's my Great Aunt Lillian and she's a character! As she was getting ready to leave, Dad said, "Be careful. I understand there are a lot of police officers between here and Slidell." Aunt Lillian responded without hesitation, "Yeah, there are some CUTE cops out there!" Dad didn't know how to respond, other than to laugh. Aunt Lillian said, "I was married for 50 years and won't get married again, but I can look!" She has that sparkle in her eyes that I see in Dad and it makes me smile.

Don't they make the cute couple? And yes, Rob was there for a bridal shower. I guess it was more of a couple's shower, because there were guys there too. They were initiated into our shower rituals of a corsage for the bride, saving the bows on the gifts, taping the cards to the gifts to send Thank You notes...

The lady in yellow is my Dad's sister, Diane. She made the yummy meatballs in a sauce that was quite unique. She shared the recipe with me: Meatballs, 2 containers of Bulls Eye Barbecue Sauce, 2 cans of Pineapple pieces shredded and 2 cans of Cream of Mushroom. I never would have thought to make that combination - but man, it was good! She also made another dish that had corn and cheese and was served as a cold dish. I think it had chives in it along with other items ~ again, things I never would have grouped together and it was a big hit.

Roda is SO good with children! I told Rob that Roda looks so sweet with children, that I'd like to be an aunt soon! Hehe.

(To the left - Rowena and her husband (my cousin) Chris. I never realized until today that Rowena likes to take pictures as much as I do. I think in her pictures of me, I'm holding a camera up and in my pictures of her, she's holding her camera up! Too cute. Good to know I'm not the only Shutter Bug on Dad's side of the family.)

I love the picture to the right - Roda is feeding the shower cake to Rob. They are adorable.
She has a wonderful laughter, the type that is almost musical.
Welcome, Roda, to our family. I hope there are many more opportunities for you to share in the smiles. I wish you and Rob joy everlasting!

Hi Kellan ~ I'm so glad that my grandmother had electricity. The Baton Rouge/Zachary area was hit pretty hard with Gustav. The day before the shower, the power came back on and the house was nice and cool. Normally it would have been a larger turnout of family, but because so many relatives were still in recovery of the storm, it's completely understandable that they couldn't make it.

Hi Ginger ~ I really enjoyed your blog and plan to revisit. My future sister-in-law, Roda, was an RN in Dubai. She is studying to get licensed here after she is married. She took good care of Greg (my fiance) after his accident and I was nervous about changing out the gauze on his arm (there's a post in my blog about the accident, pics, etc)

Don't you just love family get-togethers to celebrate a great occasion. My youngest daughter was married last month and the best part was having the family and friends all together to help us celebrate.

Hi Pat Mack ~ Congratulations to you with your daughter's marriage! What you wrote is the exact thing that Greg said for us.. "The most important thing is getting maried and having family and friends there to share it with." It's hard to believe that Rob and Roda will be married this month - on the 20th. Then Greg and I will be married on Jan 3rd. There's still so much to do, but after Greg's car accident and these hurricanes ~ it feels like the world is topsy turvy.

Hi Kel ~ It was a warm welcome for Roda to the family. I'm glad she had the chance to meet our cousins. What makes me the happiest is seeing Rob and Roda together and smiling. Life is short... we need to appreciate the joy and love while it's there.
