Morganza Critters

The Mighty Mississippi.... she's showing just how puny humans are with her swell and force. In the greater New Orleans area, we're watching the water rise. If it's not the waters from the gulf and hurricane winds coming up.... it's the Mississippi river waters coming down. We're surrounded.

I remember a couple of years ago when the Bonnie Spillway was opened. A lot of people rushed out to see it...... now it's not just the Bonnie Carrie, it's also the Morganza Floodway being opened.

Not everyone is nervous about the waters though. Nola.com has an article about a guy who catches crawfish (aka mudbugs, crawdads.. and *gasp* in some states "bait").... after the waters subside, "...crawfish will be everywhere." That will make the crawfish catchers happy little clams... they’ll be scampering after all the crawfish once the waters go back down.

I can't imagine going to the levees and just plucking the little critters right then and there. Heck, just bring the crawfish boiler and have a levee party!

Then again.... crawfish aren't the only *cough* critters out there getting readjusted in life. A friend's coworker took this picture on the way to work, which happens to take her by the Morganza Floodway. I'll stick to the high grounds, if there are any left around here.

That looks like a cobra with its head reared up like that!

I remember crossing a highway in Mississippi with my dad and a snake much like that was crossing the road. Let's just say the snake did not have the right of way.
