Avenue Q ~ imagine Sesame Street music - la, la, laaaaa, la, la - Greg brought it to my attention that all of the songs sounded the same, except for the change in words. It's true! They have the same sing-songy, sing along with me, cutesy sound, yep, just like Sesame Street. The puppeteers used that "child voice" for the puppets. Hey, it's puppets and Sesame Street sounds, but.... that's where it stops.

All those cutesy sounds don't match the cursing (which did make me laugh, you just don't expect muppet to say "Fuck" and "Shit" - all very appropriately timed as well..) and unPC topics, such as racism, homosexuality, schadenfreude (look it up if you don't know), porn (one of Greg's favorites - the girl/monster puppet was singing along about how she was going to open a Monster School and teach monster children about the Internet. Then a big Monster from one of the windows screams out "PORN". She thought he was horrible and tried to stop him from saying Porn, but he couldn't stop. Then the big Monster looked at the audience and questioned if Internet was for Porn, the audience laughed and the looks between the two Monster puppets was hilarious)...

But for me, I don't know if I can look at another puppet without seeing the puppets on center stage having sex, drunken sex (yes, the muppets drink, influenced by the "cute" bear puppets). Yep, I saw puppets nude, having sex, doing the wild thing and I'm not just talking missionary either! Heck, they even had bear puppets doing it doggie style on the side stage.

It's a jaw dropping show, just long enough to laugh as well. (And by the way, the ticket master specifically said that this is NOT for children.)

Some of their songs are catchy, though, I'll give them that... Greg and I were singing, "It sucks to be me" on the way out (went well with the deluge of rain that we had to dash through to get to the car). We laughed and ran :)

All in all, not a show I would have picked to go to, but it was definitely an experience.

I love this show. It's very clever. They use puppets to help bring up topics otherwise too PC to talk about. But it also Bush bashes which I didn't like. I own the CD. LOL

Funny if some of these songs follow you through the day. Imagine your thoughts when you're singing it to yourself at the market. Funny.
Oh, my. Not sure I would want to see it...don't think the muppets would ever be the same again...and I would miss that...But it sounds like you found the fun in it...and I love you for that! ~Janine XO
