Saints Poem by My Dad

My Dad writes poetry. Did I mention that? I didn't know he did until after I wrote a number of poems and then my Mom showed me the many, many poems Dad wrote to her. They were beautiful. Last night, he wrote another one, after the Saints' victory. I thought I'd share this with you... made me teary-eyed...

THE LADY SMILES
by: Lester J. Grimball

The lady smiles once more
As she had done, so many times
In the moments past, before the
Time of the tragedy, that seem
To take her heart from her

So many said, she was beyond repair
But proven wrong were they, by she
For she had a secret, only the ones
That knew her, knew of this secret
Of the Lady of New Orleans

The color of her banner
Change from purple, green and gold
To the colors the "Saints"
Bestowed on her, the black and gold
Is now her banner, flying high

Seems befitting, in a way, the black for
The Black moments she had come through
The Gold, the most cherished of possessions
Known to man, now is her's to hold

She now beams with pride, once more
Knowing well, the cherished moment
Will preserve the heart and soul
Of her most cherished possessions
The many persons within her mystic
Forming the City of New Orleans

So "Saints", go forward, achieve what has
Never been achieved before, do what man
Can do to heal, this place we call home
For every ounce of effort, put forth by
You, will bring many times more the
Gratitude of the Lady, carrying her
Banner of Black and Gold, her "Saints"
In shining armor, has arrived

They will return, to the place where tragedy
Lies, the death of so many memories
But thanks to you, my dear "Saints"
The good ones, begin to out weigh the bad
The treasure of such a memory
Only can be given from the heart and soul
Of the magic of the moment at hand

The Lady smiles once more
Truly an amazing gift
My friend, Kristen, wrote on FB: "New Orleans has come unglued!!!! Sitting on Poydras in gridlock making our way to the French Quarter. People are honking, chanting and dancing in the street. WHO DAT!!!!!! " Grg went to the store to buy a newspaper before they sold out. He was there at 6:30am and was the 8th person in line. They only allowed 5 newspapers per person. By the time that he left the store, he counted 65 people behind him, wrapped around the store! WOOO HOOOO!!!!

That was beautiful!!! At least we know where you got your talent now!! :)

The win was a long time in coming and I'm glad that they got their chance!! WHOOT WHOOT!

Glad too, that it brought so many people together in triumph this time instead of tears of sadness...
