Happy Day

I'm so smiling right now! I woke up, got to snuggle with Greg in the nice cool house (love fall weather). Greg cooked me a delicious breakfast, my parents and his parents called to wish me a Happy Birthday. Greg's sister, Madelyn called and wished me Happy Birthday and told me the secret to being young! She said, "Now you can always say that you're actually older, say that you are 45 so people say how great you look!" Love it! Gwen and Kristen sent Happy Birthday emails and I want to thank ya'll, my kind blogger friends, for your wishes as well.

I even got dressed for work, ready to head on out, thinking I wouldn't be able to take off of work like most employees, because of end of the month reports coming up, but Dad called and said I could take the day off (that's the "birthday gift" we give to employees, paid day) - Woo Hoo!

Then Greg said, "Do you want me to wait to give you your gift?"

What do you think I said? Hehe...

I love it! He's so sweet. Mom wants me to wear it (which I am) for supper tonight when we go over to Rob and Roda's. Roda is cooking (hopefully one of her chocolate cakes too, because those are awesome).

It's 8am and I'm not a morning person, but hey, I'm happy! When I was on the phone with Mom, Greg said loudly so Mom could hear, "Thank your Mom for having you" and I did. Thank you, Mom!

Greg also gave me another gift. The other day he asked what I wanted for my birthday and I said, "For you to write something for the blog" and without further ado..

~~~~~~~
“Ok ok ok”… that was my response to Aleta,
She asked me to be a “guest” blogger on her site… and seeing how she already delved into the most personal and intimate dark corners of my not so personal life… I finally agreed.
I asked her “Well what do you want me to write about anyway?” Her reply was… “anything”. So here it goes…
“Dear Penthouse Forum….”
* S M A C K * OUCH! (you can use your imagination as to what just transpired)
OK I will tell you about something funny that happened to me last fall.
I LOVE to get up early in the mornings. Before I met Aleta I wouldn’t bother making breakfast so I would always do a “on the road” fast food meal. At the time I didn’t realize that I had diabetes and I couldn’t figure out why I always needed to go to the bathroom and always felt the need to drink. Well… any-hoo… my story starts off with me on the interstate driving a very long lonely stretch of I-55 with nothing to keep me company but the remnants of my coffee and my trusty radio in my comfy Explorer. It was a chilly and damp morning about 7:30 and the rain was kind of miserable. It was as if someone was persistently sneezing lightly on my windshield. Thank GOD for intermittent wipers!
Well this long stretch of interstate stretched over the northwest part of Lake Pontchartrain and this means that it almost entirely swamp and bayous… ergo it is an elevated highway (bridge) for over 25 miles or so.
I am tooling along when my phone rings. It is the office manager Darla (a WONDERFUL person with a great Texas accent) who operates out of Fort Worth. She called to say she had a PO (Purchase Order) from one of my clients and she needed to know exactly what the PO is for so she can ship it out that morning. Having the need to pull over to get the info for her I decided that now would also be a good time to “relieve myself” … however there were NO trees or woods to run off into here… only concrete bridge railings for miles and miles.
Well.. being the your typical male… and a big fan of Tim Allen, the gears immediately started to turn in my head… and my eyes were drawn to that mostly empty styrofoam coffee cup. Darla started to put me on hold for another call and I took advantage of the situation. I took out my Day-Timer and had the info at hand… I took out the coffee cup as well as my ____ and started to relieve myself into said Styrofoam cup. I had my cellular on Speakerphone and it was lying on my center console and I was just finishing my “relief procedure” when TAP TAP TAP …. it was a State Trooper lightly tapping at the passenger side window with his flashlight!!! My heart jumped in my throat. I had my ____ in one hand, a coffee cup filled to the brim in my other. I put the filled cup shakily into the cup holder between the seats. Just as I was rolling down the window to talk to the officer, still somewhat “exposed” Darla came on the speaker phone and said “OK Greg… I’m ready!”.
SOoooo… I now thank God for 2 things….
It was a MALE Louisiana State Trooper
He had a sense of humor.
He was VERY young… if I didn’t know better I would have put him at about high school age. He started laughin. Then chuckling… then… after the absurdity of the whole situation as well as the PERFECT timing of all 3 things happening at once.. well lets say it was a good thing it was raining outside because I swear that after the thought sunk in I thought he was peeing on himself.
Which, by the way, was what I should have done in the first place.
~~~~~~

Me again (Aleta)... I had to add this. Below is an email that Greg sent to Dad and copied me on, too cute

~~~~~~
Ok here is the scene this morning… I am preparing breakfast for Aleta and myself and she is in her room getting ready for work.
She comes out in her nice new attire I have ever seen before and is smiling from ear to ear that I notice it. Her breakfast is ready then Gay calls her…. Then after talking to Gay she gets on the phone with you and TALKS HER WAY OUT OF WORK!!!??? If you ONLY knew she was almost on her way already… what a pushover you are! LOL Good Dad though.
The down side to this is NOW I have to go see a chick flick with her this afternoon! (UGH!!)
Sorry I missed giving you birthday wishes yesterday! I can read though that it was a very happy day indeed!
OMG - Greg's story was too funny! Reminds me of a friend back in college. He was hitch-hiking, and fogot he had been picked up by a 18-wheeler. (No, I have NO idea how you can forget that's what you are riding in!). Anyway, the guy stops to let him out, and Don steps out, like he is getting out of a car! After laughing to the point of almost peeing his pants, tbe driver finally leans over, looking down at Don still flat on his back on the side of the road, and asks if he is okay. Anyway, point to this, is we never let him live this event down. His father finally told him one day when a bunch of us were at his house - "Don, you have to learn that there are some things that happen in your life you just NEVER tell ANYONE!"
Greg - maybe this is one of those?! :-) I'm glad you shared it though - my coffee almost came out my nose! :-)
First up I am so sorry I missed your birthday Aleta. I just didn't get a chance to get on here yesterday. It sounds like you had a fun day.
Greg, you should guest post more often. That story was too funny and brilliantly told. Loved the whole post and the necklace is beautiful.
