Sunflower Power

My grandmother, Maw Maw, has a green thumb. She loves to plant things. At 82 years old, she's still going strong ~ driving long distances to visit and enjoying company. She helped my parents plant a garden.

When Greg and I saw the vine growing, Greg asked my parents, "Are you trying to grow a Bean Stalk, Jack?" Hehe. They have three sunflower stalks. Two have huge blooms. We're standing under the shortest stalk and Greg is holding it down to get into the picture!

Hi Aleta,

First i want to thank you for visiting my blog and sharing your thoughts. I posted something about summer weddings and hopefully some of the ideas there would be useful when you do plan your wedding.

I have not yet seen such a big sunflower. Where I live, sunflowers grow just about everywhere, but i think they are the wild, smaller variety of sunflowers. Sunflowers are such beautiful flowers! They really make you smile!

Wow! That's a real tall plant.. Never seen one this tall.

I miss the garden we had in the house that I grew up in.. had a gardener come in almost everyday then. I used to enjoy watering the plants in my free time.

Apartments in Bombay are much smaller.. more like the ones I've seen in NYC.. so a garden is, well.. just a dream..

Hi Rachel ~ I told my parents that they could make sunflower seeds from those big blooms and sell them! Lol. They are something else and they grew quickly too.

Hi Rashikaps ~ And just think, the sunflower in the picture is the shortest of the three! Do you have plants inside your home? You could create a small area and make it a garden. I would like to do that inside my home, but Tigger eats anything green!

Hi Carol ~ We’re in late spring, early summer. We actually have plenty of blooms in the winter in Louisiana because we rarely get very cold.
