20 Minutes of Stuff

I am guilty of buying things I don’t need and tossing stuff I never used. In fact, I was shocked with how much we had for the garage sale (and the profit from said sale).

Tonight, Greg sent me a link and I thought I’d share it here. Take 20 minutes of your time and listen to the entire thing. After you listen, is there anything you think you can do to make a change? We are all part of the big picture and it’s time we took responsibility for it. Truly, what are your values?

Wow this is very powerful.
I think all schools should learn about this stuff.
Yes we do use too much.

That was really interesting! I never think about where things come from. It was very eye-opening!

Hi Henriette,

I completely agree. Greg and I went to the mall the other night to get a watch battery. While we were there we discussed how the malls are the modern "babysitter." The Clearview Mall now has a rule that any child under a certain age after 4pm MUST be accompanied by an adult. Malls have turned in to places for kids to hang out and what's there? Shops, the latest trends, etc. The opposite of what values we should teach, so very sad.. Thanks for taking the time to watch it.

Hi Jen,

Eye-opening is the word. I especially found how the level of happiness decreased as we went on a spending spree. If you couple that with people who shop to relieve stress or unhappiness, but it's only short termed and doesn't resolve the problems ~ put that together with the morals of our society, it's something else. Rather scary, if you ask me..

I'm not a tree hugger by any manner of the means, but I do think we can each take steps in redefining what we need and can live without and then live within a better means and without the debt load that is created from the "need to buy" attitude..

Thanks for watching it and for your comment!!

Sometimes I see myself being wasteful and I get so ashamed, haha. But thanks for the comment on my blog, you've got some insight to share, and I appreciate it. Conversely, you also gave me a wuss cop-out. A comment section isn't big enough, eh? Then how about a post? I'd like to extend the challenge to you. I know you're probably a busy individual, but I think there's some real gold in that mine of your's, so I encourage you to share.
